military pay information

Making an exact list of a military pay chart can be difficult to do, and at best imprecise. Military pay is divided into several components, and each component is variable due to rank, time in the service, and other considerations. While military pay is similar in amount to civilian pay, it can be difficult to gather exact amounts. The United States military offers many benefits that can’t necessarily be quantified. For example, the United State military offers some of the best health care benefits available. But even breaking down the actual military pay chart can be a little tricky.

The starting number for finding a military salary is called the basic pay. Basic pay is completely dependent on the rank and time in the service of each individual. Rank is earned differently in each branch of the service, but for the most part is dependent on testing or personal merit. Military servicemen and women receive percentage raise increases for every year that they are in the military. Basic pay is the easiest part of the military salary to interpret. Added to the basic pay are financial compensations known as allowances. Allowances can be difficult to predict because they vary from individual to individual. The type of allowances and amount of allowances are dependant on several variables.

One of the biggest allowances that are added to the basic pay is called basic allowances for housing. The United States military tries to provide housing for all of its servicemen and women, but that isn’t always possible. Sometimes the housing units on a military facility are filled to capacity or being renovated, or sometimes housing simply isn’t available in overseas postings. When there is no housing available, the United States gives servicemen and woman the basic allowance for housing. This allowance covers costs of housing and utilities, and is dependent on rank, zip code, and number of dependents. The United State military also offers other types of allowances, such as clothing, overseas, severance, and cost of living.
