Job Description
Assisting in the overall health care of all Army personnel and their families is the Army medical specialist corps officer. Like other medical officers, this specialist commands and manages personnel in the unit. Specialties for a medical specialist corps officer include:

· Occupational therapy

· Physical therapy

· Dietary concerns

The officer may also be assigned as a physician assistant.



Training

To become an Army medical corps officer, you must have a degree in your specialty from an acceptable school. You must also complete an officer basic leadership course, which is a basic orientation course to the Army Health Care system, Army doctrine, and basic soldier and leader skills. Training lasts between nine and 14 weeks, depending on your specialty.

An ideal candidate for an Army medical specialist corps officer should:

· Show self-discipline, initiative, confidence and intelligence

· Be physically fit

· Be able to handle stressful situations and make decisions swiftly

· Show respect for all personnel
