When you choose to leave the U.S. Army, you’re leaving a lot of comfort behind. The structure of the military is easy to get used to, and the unparalleled benefits of housing and food allowances, health care, and childcare are hard to do without in civilian life.
Thinking of a civilian career may leave you unsure about how to make the transition, and as a U.S. Army veteran, you don’t know what you’re qualified for.
Don’t worry. The Army isn’t done giving you benefits yet. It offers a huge range of services to veterans to make the transition to civilian life as easy as possible.
Transfer Your Military Skills to a Civilian Job with ACAP. Every Army post has an Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) center designed to help soldiers make the transition to a civilian career. They’ll help you figure out how your military skills transfer to the civilian sector, help you decide on the right career path for you to pursue, and help you get the job search skills you need to land the job you deserve.
Some of the services ACAP offers include:
- Resume help
- Assistance in developing networking skills
- Career analysis and assistance
- Skills transfer
- Access to job fairs and markets that are friendly to veterans
Get Priority Consideration for a Job at a Fortune 500. If you’re coming to the end of your military service, you can get involved in a program called Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS). PaYS helps soldiers prepare for their careers following their term of service much as ACAP does, but it also adds a huge additional benefit: priority consideration.
Select companies all over the country are looking for employees with many of the skills you’ve learned while part of the U.S. Army. They’ve teamed up to participate in the PaYS program and offer Army veterans just like you priority consideration for prime careers at those companies.
PaYS companies include organizations in every sector and many Fortune 500. If you were worried no one values veteran experience in the U.S. Army, the PaYS program should set you straight.
