Military recruiting goals met and exceeded

All four branches continue to exceed their goals for recruiting and have done so since April of 2008.  Part of the reason may be that the military has begun to reach out to parents of potential recruits.  There is no lack of patriotism, but there is concern on the part of the families.  This is completely understandable, so the military began educating parents on what they and their child could expect.  This, along with cash incentives for new recruits seems to be the extra push that was needed.

Many parents were actually dissuading their children from joining the military service.  This is a sharp turn from past generations which took great pride in the military service of their family members.  Once parents understood what exactly would happen, the information was enough for them to stop discouraging military service.  Parents are still proud, once the young person joins.  That is one great thing about America.  Not many like the conflicts, but most Americans are very proud of the service men and women.

Recruiting efforts continue despite a recent cut in the defense budget.  The top priority is to keep America safe, which has not changed.
