MNF Leaders Talk With Civilian Think Tank Members Visiting Iraq
A group of American Think Tank scholars traveled to Iraq and met with coalition leaders recently. They were briefed on the current situation and the benefits that have been contributed by Coalition Air Force personnel toward training Iraqi Personnel. United States Air Force Brigadier General Robert Allardice spoke to the group and related the different ways that Air Force personnel are involved in the Iraqi Air Force program of Training.
The group of think tank scholars is traveling to different locations in the Iraqi theater to gain a true understanding of current situations in Iraq. This will allow them to be more accurate in helping brainstorm solutions to problems that are faced by different groups trying to assist in reconstruction in Iraq.
Members of the think tank traveling from the United States included Dr. Kim Kagan, Richard Lowry, Dr. Anthony Cordesman, and Dr. Fred Kagan, and Dr. Michele A. Flournoy. These members of the US based think tank visited with the members of the Multi National Security Transition Command. While in Iraq they stopped at Camp Dublin, which is the home of the Iraqi National Police.
They were greeted at Camp Dublin by Major General Alessandro Pompegnani, with the NATO Training Mission. Major Pompegnani talked to the group regarding the NATO goals in assisting the Iraqi nation to become stable.
The think tank then traveled to the Besmaya Range Complex including the BMP1 Course used for Driver Instruction, and the M-16 rifle biometrics course and storage warehouse. “We are excited to see the Iraqi Army progress, we have heard about the progress in training,” said Dr. Cordesman.
An opportunity to participate in BMP Driver instruction was afforded Dr. Kim Kagen. “It was very enjoyable to be able to take part.” Said Dr. Kagan.
