Sons Of Iraq Assist 3rd Infantry Soldiers

IED Devices And Other Explosives Discovered And Destroyed

The program of civilian resistance groups such as Sons Of Iraq are proving to be very worthy and contributing a great deal to the coalition war effort.  The Sons of Iraq are giving information and intelligence to Coalition soldiers leading to direct discovery of weapons caches and ammunition.

There have been a number of caches turned over in the Southern Arab Jabour area alone. Each time it has been because of information that was given to coalition soldiers by members of the Sons of Iraq resistance and concern citizen group.

The groups operating in Iraq have grown since the peace and security situation has improved.  At first it was just the efforts of the CLC concerned local citizens groups, and their contributions were very helpful.  But as the security situation has improved, the rise and success of the Sons of Iraq groups have been impressive.  The Sons of Iraq groups tend to be more aggressive and assertive, and have led to more explosives, IED, and ammunition being located and turned over to Coalition troops than was previously described by the CLC groups.

Operation Marne Thunderbolt has seen coalition soldiers working deeper into areas of Arab Jabour that have not seen any sustained efforts before by coalition or American Soldiers.  These new areas have been largely revealed by the operation and efforts of the Sons of Iraq groups assisting Coalition soldiers.

2nd Brigade Combat team, 3rd Infantry division has been working with the Sons of Iraq soldiers for about eight months, but it has been in the last sixty days where the information and intelligence from these groups has grown huge.

“As they have grown to trust us and see that our efforts are aimed at helping them, the Sons of Iraq have come forward at risk to their own lives and helped out tremendously,” said Major James Wilburn.  Major Wilburn is the Chief of Operations for the 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
